What is Fuel Poverty?

“Low-income households that cannot afford to heat their homes and meet their other energy needs”

 

A household is in fuel poverty if:

  • The energy performance certificate (EPC) rating of their property is less than EPC Band C AND
  • Their net disposable income after housing costs is below the poverty line

Fuel poverty can be caused by a variety of reasons, and can seriously impact a person's health and wellbeing. 

However, there is a lot of support available for those who are impacted. 

you can join the Priority Service Register, which offers extra services free of charge to those considered vulnerable
